President's Letter

Kara Ceriello

The Wallingford Chamber of Commerce has just finished work on our 2009 Business Directory.  You'll find it soon at various businesses and at the Wallingford Neighborhood Office.  Refer to it throughout the year while supporting the variety of businesses and services in Wallingford all within walking distance.

Our growing and diverse neighborhood has become a destination for shoppers, diners and tourists.  We feature more unique, independently owned businesses than most areas of Seattle. Even more than in '07, in 2008 many of our businesses made Best Of lists, won awards locally and nationally, and were featured frequently in local and national media.  We've attracted filmmakers and national television shows taking advantage of the historical character of our community, as well as our wide assortment of businesses.

We continue to support our community in various ways.  The Chamber's annual Wally Awards salute businesses and individuals making a difference.  The Chamber continues to sponsor events like Wallingford's first-ever Art Walk, Spring Clean, the Wallingford Seafair Kiddie Parade (the oldest in Seattle), and the Wallingford Farmers Market.  We also support other Wallingford events, like the Home Tour, the Senior Center's annual Rocking Chair Races, St. Benedict's Wurst Festival, the Boys & Girls Club events and much more.

Your Chamber has taken an increasingly active role in the community. www.WallingfordSaves.com (our own community co-op) and the Puget Sound Community Card (www.PugetSound.cc), feature Wallingford businesses, support local non-profits, and offer discounts.  In 2008 we increased participation both in our Community Council and in city issues that impact Wallingford, like sidewalk and road improvements, and public safety issues.  We've become a strong voice in city government with representatives to many city and community organizations.

All of our businesses are invited to attend our popular monthly meetings, and we always welcome fresh ideas in continuing to make Wallingford a vibrant neighborhood!  You found our website,  feel free to access www.Wallingford.org, which features information about our Community Council, the Neighborhood Office, and other neighborhood organizations, services, events and activities. The Chamber is committed to making Wallingford a great place to live, work, play, eat and shop.

Thanks for supporting our local businesses, now more than ever! Experience the legendary friendliness, and unique experience, that is Wallingford.
